The local stages of the world’s longest trekking route

The stages of the Sentiero Italia in the GAL SGT area offer immersion in the largest hiking trail in Italy, crossing the Gerrei and surrounding territories and highlighting wild landscapes, mountain scenery, flora and fauna.

This third itinerary featured in the Test Tours offers the chance to experience one segment of the Sentiero Italia, traversing parts of the Gerrei and nearby areas, with powerful natural, landscape and historical features.

The stages covered are:

STAGE 1

Burcei – Su Niu e S’Achili (n. 336)

Starting in Burcei—the gateway to the Sarrabus mountains—the trail winds through holm oak forests and overlooks the sea and inland landscapes, eventually reaching Su Niu e S’Achili, a panoramic viewpoint and area of great natural charm.

STAGE 2

Su Niu e S’Achili – Armungia (n.337)

From the heart of the forest, the path descends toward Armungia, a “museum village” steeped in history. Here the trail meets the memory of Emilio and Joyce Lussu, Nuragic archaeology and pastoral life, in an atmosphere suspended in time.

STAGE 3

Armungia – Cuile Is Arrantas – Escalaplano (n.338)

The final stage crosses plateaus overlooking the Flumendosa river, with wide vistas and profound silences. The trail reaches Cuile Is Arrantas before continuing toward Escalaplano, a village set among the rocks, where the journey ends amid nature, tradition and authentic hospitality.

The Sentiero Italia is Italy’s great national hiking backbone. In Sardinia, it traverses mountains, ridges, forests and villages, offering intense landscape and cultural experiences.
