The itinerary across the historic region of Trexenta winds through Pimentel, Ortacesus, Guasila, Siurgus Donigala, Suelli, Selegas, Senorbì, Guamaggiore and Gesico, offering an experience that blends nature, culture and gastronomy.
Pimentel – Ortacesus
The route begins in Pimentel, where ancient and contemporary meet in the virtual tour of the Domus de Janas of S’Acqua Salida—an accessible and innovative setup that allows visitors to digitally explore Sardinia’s prehistoric past.
A short distance away, visiting the actual domus de janas, prehistoric rock-cut chamber tombs, offers a direct encounter with the stone and memory of the Neolithic, in a quiet and evocative setting.
In Ortacesus, the necropolis of Mitza de Siddi recounts Punic and Roman civilizations through a complex of tombs and burials revealing rites, beliefs and social customs. Further along, the Wheat Museum welcomes visitors inside an old manor house, showcasing farming tools, looms and objects from rural life—evidence of work in the fields and the ingenuity of women.
Guasila – Siurgus Donigala
The route continues to Guasila, where the large neoclassical dome of the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin Assunta dominates the landscape.
Nearby, the Scrinia Sacra Museum preserves liturgical vestments and religious objects, expressions of local devotion.
In the surrounding area, the Domus de Janas of Riu Sa Mela and the Rifugio Gennedda in Siurgus Donigala invite visitors to quiet reflection among woodlands and landscapes overlooking the lake.
Suelli – Senorbì – Selegas
The journey continues toward Suelli, home to the Archaeological Museum, which preserves findings from Nuraghe Piscu, one of the island’s most important nuraghi.
In Senorbì, the Trexenta Winery opens its doors for a guided tour through the local winemaking tradition, followed by a tasting of wines that speak of the land and the dedication of its member producers.
In Selegas, the Museum of Sacred Art and the church of Sant’Anna and San Gioacchino offer a path through spirituality and architectural beauty.
Guamaggiore – Gesico
A short distance away, Guamaggiore welcomes visitors with its Church of San Pietro and the evocative country church dedicated toSanta Maria Maddalena, built on a hill that hides ancient burials and a Nuragic well beneath its floor.
